Ellie Goulding: Live at Bayou Music Center

The UK superstar, Ellie Goulding, graced her presence in Houston, TX a few nights ago with a stage show that I’ll never forget. In only a few short years this extremely talented lady has had more than one single go platinum and has been traveling the world playing her music since she debuted Lights back in 2010.

Touring in support of her most recent work, Halcyon Days, Ellie made a short and sweet stop in Houston TX this past Monday. Her band kicked off the set with intriguing guitars and keys with lightning strikes on screens behind them. As the music gained momentum, Ellie sprinted on stage and her unique voice sang the intro to “Figure 8” as her sold out crowd sang along to every word.

After a few random songs from Lights and Halcyon, the singer performed one of her platinum hits, “Starry Eyed”. The highlight of the show, for me, was about halfway through when Ellie sang a FLAWLESS cover of Alt-J’s “Tesselate”.  If you haven’t heard this cover (especially if you’re a fan of Alt-J) I suggest you find it on youtube and give it a listen. You will not be disappointed!

The rest of the show was full of crowd interaction, dancing, and radio hits including “Anything Could Happen”, “I Need Your Love”, “Lights”, and an encore including the most anticipated song of the night “Burn”. This show definitely is for a wide range of music tastes including EDM, alternative, and even a little soul. This is definitely not Ellie’s first time around the block and it’s nowhere near the end of her successful career. If you get the chance to see her live this time around (in a more intimate setting than an arena) I would definitely suggest you do so! What a phenomenal performer.
